Forgiveness…Our Top Tens

Forgiveness. Remorse. We’ve all been affected by those words, in one way or another. Perhaps you’ve done wrong and have (or should) ask for forgiveness. Maybe someone has done something to you that you’ve forgiven (or haven’t). Being scorned, or being the one that wronged someone else, is a part of everyone’s life in some way. The arts and pop culture are no different. Many a song has been written on the subject. Movies created. Television shows, with dialogue created with that theme as inspiration, written. Public figures offering heartfelt, or something that looks like, grandiose apologies for their scoffs. We thought we’d share a few top ten (according to us) lists with the theme of forgiveness. We encourage you to participate too. If we left something off the list or if you just want to share your story with us, feel free to utilize our comments section. (We apologize in advance for any we forgot or didn’t select.)

1. Infidelity
2. Stealing
3. Abuse/physically harming someone
4. Lying
5. Accidents resulting in harming another
6. Saying something harsh to someone
7. Disappointing someone

4. Paula Deen (The chef who published books and had her own cooking show was caught making racial slurs.)
5. Jim Bakker (The TV evangelist tearfully apologized for the sex scandal that led to his resignation of his ministry. He would later be jailed for accounting fraud as well.)
6. Bill Clinton (C’mon, you all remember this one. The denial. The admission. The dress!)
7. John Lennon (The former Beatle, singer-songwriter, had to do some damage control after being misunderstood when he said the Beatles were bigger than Jesus)
8. Kanye West (We’ve lost count of his apologies for outbursts, belittling other artists after they received awards. Do you see a pattern here?)
9. John Edwards (The former Senator apologized for his extramarital affair, which resulted in a child.)
10. Hugh Grant (The actor was caught with a Hollywood prostitute and less than two weeks later, appeared and apologized on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.)

1. Heart of the Matter by Don Henley

So, how did we do? Anything we left out? Comment away!
